Fraser Island - Trip Details zzzz

What's Included in a Fraser Island Trip
Apart from one of the most exciting fishing adventures you can imagine, the following is also included in your trip.

  • Pickup at Urangan boat harbour on whichever vessel you are using, either the 18ft centre console or the 36ft gameboat.
  • All meals and non alcoholic drinks are provided while onboard.
  • We supply all rods, reels and line for all fishing styles. These are all top of the range Shimano Stella, Tiagra and Torsa rods and reels. We do not provide flyfishing gear on these trips.
  • Your fishing will be aboard our 18ft or 36ft sportfishing boats, depending on which trip you choose.
  • All sportfishing vessels are guided with 1-2 crew per vessel, depending on trip type.
  • All tackle rigging and preparation will be done for you. All you need to do is get aboard and go fishing each day.

What do you need to bring on a Fraser Island trip?

  • CLOTHING - Long sleeve fishing shirt with SPF30+, long fishing pants or shorts are fine, as well as a suitable hat that provides excellent sun protection. You will also need some sandals suitable for walking on rough sand/rocks around the sand cays. We recommend that you bring polarised sunglasses. We also recommend that you bring a suitable 3/4 length rain jacket or something similar for protection from the elements in the smaller boats. If travelling between June-September we recommend bringing some warmer clothes as it can get a little chilly at night.
  • FISHING GEAR - We have all rods and reels provided onboard that you will need. However, if you wish to bring a small selection of your own rods/reels/tackle that is fine, and we encourage you to do this. If you are bringing your own tackle, please ask us for recommendations before you come, as there is not much point bringing the wrong gear..
  • MEDICATION - any medication that you require for the week must be brought with you. You will be a long way from anywhere and apart from emergency situations we are not able to provide you with any form of medication.
  • PERSONAL ITEMS - we provide towels onboard the vessel, however we do ask you to bring your own personal sanitary items. Please remember your toothbrush, soap, shampoo and any other such items.
  • SUNSCREEN - please remember to bring a small supply of your own personal sunscreen lotion
  • Bring your digital camera and we can then provide you with a DVD at the end of the week with everyone's pictures from the week.

Pre Trip Accommodation
Fraser Island trips depart from Urangan boat harbour, and package prices are ex the Boat harbour. There are many places to stay in Hervey Bay, but the Mantra Resort in Hervey Bay is the closest to the boat harbour, and is very comfortable and reasonably priced. If you need any assistance with accommodation, please call our office.

Domestic Flights in Australia
Domestic flights from Brisbane and Sydney operate several times a day to Hervey Bay(The base for fishing Fraser Island), and these can be booked through the Jetstar or Virgin Blue websites. Many domestic air carriers in Australia have baggage limits, and limits on the length of rods tubes allowed to be carried. Jetstar airways allows rod tubes up to a maximum length of 2m. We believe that currently Virgin airways allows longer rod tubes, but please ask your travel agent to ensure they check any special requirements.

Medical
We do have an excellent emergency medical plan in place for any emergency situations while out at sea. We have a Royal Flying Doctors First aid chest which contains equipment to deal with all first aid emergencies. We are required to be in Satellite phone contact with our Doctor to use this chest, but it provides the highest level of remote area medical assistance possible. Any emergency evacuations are handled through the RFDS or our floatplane pilots directly.
We have clients aged from 15-85 years old, but please be aware that the location you are visiting is a LONG way from serious medical assistance. We do not recommend coming on these trips if you have any serious medical conditions that could require immediate attention.

Travel Insurance

Travel insurance is recommended for ALL clients undertaking our trips. You should ensure that travel insurance can cover any changes to connecting flights, medical emergencies, and cancellations of any kind. It is highly unlikely that anything will happen in regards to your trip, but if it does, some form of insurance is very valuable.

What is available to purchase onboard?

  • We have a fully stocked tackle shop which has everything you will need. The only thing we do not sell is flyfishing gear. Lost lures and terminal tackle are a highly variable thing from day to day, and as such we do provide all tackle required on a pay for when lost basis.
  • We have a full range of Nomad clothing available for purchase onboard. This includes hats, long sleeve fishing shirts, T-shirts, stubby coolers
  • We also use, sell and highly recommend Maui Jim Sunglasses onboard the boat.
  • If you plan on making any purchases onboard, please bring some cash or a credit card and we can finalise your account at the end of the trip.
