John gets a Mackeral slam dunk in the dory!John: With a solid breeze blowing this morning the guys where really keen to have a go at some GTs. So we fished some great looking edges and where rewarded with some nice fish coming aboard with a great variety of fish including Trout, Red Bass, GTs and an excellent Maori Wrasse of about 30kg showing great colourations of blue and green, after lunch things quietened down a little and we started casting the outside edge and with memories of yesterday having a Mackeral jump over the boat today we went one better with one about 15kg smashing a stickbait and literally landing in the boat on the full !!!! WTF !!! if things come in threes what will tomorrow bring … Glanville: We started off this morning with a plan to catch a bunch of species and mix things up a little and that’s exactly what we did…. We got straight on the flats in the morning and cleared up a mixed bag before we were rudely chased off by the tide, as we got to the deeper edge the creatures got bigger and we boated a few solid fish including a nice GT on the light gear before we changed up to the poppers, after a little bit of the heavier gear the tide slowed a bit more and made fishing with soft plastics a viable option so we got into it and boated a few quality fish including a nice purple cod which is going to end up on the dinner table tomorrow night. Lunch time was spent anchored up behind a sand cay and catching up with Johnny and his guys to see how their day went, the arv plan was to do some trolling and hopefully try for a sail so we trolled around to catch a mackerel to cut some belly strips off and not long and we had the call from Johnny that he had our bait, except they didn’t catch it, it launched into their boat whilst in hot pursuit of one of the stickbaits…. The day ended off with another flats session which saw us catch a couple nice gts and another mixed bag, all in all and epic day on the water nice and cruisy and a lot of different fish to keep the guys entertained, with the wind dying down this arv it will be interesting to see what the fish gods throw at us tomorrow!!! Clint: First up today we did some trolling and off the bat got some nice spanish.Once the current stared to rip we put on the GT’ hat and there many around to play and we boated a heap some guys it was there first tase of serious gt action and they loved it.The guys where pretty buggered after that so we drop jigs down and there where plenty of bottom dwellers for the taking wrasse trout and red bass all in the better size category.By the arvo the guys where happy to have a extened luch and swim to time out from sore arms.
