Guides Report 3 March 2012

Peter: Awesome conditions this morning out on the water. The day started of with a bang hitting a ledge that was absolutely crawling with GTs. We managed to pick up 8 good size GTs before 9 o’clock this morning. We ended up seeing fish in numbers right through the run out tide between packs of GTs and sky rocketing Mackerel. At one stage we had 7 swimming under the boat wanting to eat. We popped the hooks on 2 of them one of which would have been 30kgs. Our luck changed after starting off with such a bang we couldn’t manage to stay connected. I think a little bit of fatigue must have set in with the boys haha!!! We ended up with 9 nice GTs for the day and some good shallow water flats fishing. Not to forget some awesome takes that will stick in the memory bank. Yet again a pleasure to be out on the water. Clint: Today was all about the chill. The boys had had a great weeks fishing and wanted to wind down. It is hard to chill when there are fish just wanting to eat the lures and the flats were great just as they had been the other days. Dave wanted to throw light tackle rods for GTs his arms were so sore from the other days he could not cope throwing the big rods. I’m not sure if that was a good idea as his medium size Goby was getting obliterated by GTs on the pressure edges. He managed to land two and pulled the hooks on a heap more. A great day kicking it on the Coral Sea. Glanville:- Last full day of charter for the guys so we went at it hard, started off with a bang and had 3 GTs to the boat in short succession, as the tide went lower the bite seemed to slow down a little we decided to meet up with the other boys for lunch where the guys chilled out and had a swim, after lunch we started a light tackle session that went off with a bang and we had 4 trout within minutes, until we got terrorised by a solid GT trying to eat one of our stripeys, the next red throat was also on the lunch menu for this GT and this time it was served to him on a silver platter we had a short lived tussle with a solid size fish before the reef got the better of us, it was entertaining whilst it lasted!!! The afternoon brought us a few good spots loaded with GTs and we managed to put a few more in the boat which took us to around 10 for the day before we headed for the new anchorage.
