Mobile GT bommies Sportfishing Galore at Jewell Reef!
prize pack

What's a mobile bommie? Well, all the guests at Jewell Reef in 2011 found out what they look like. It's a school of thousands of GTs ranging from 20-40kg, just milling around on the surface in 500m of water out off the edge of the reef. There's a quick little clip from Glanville's gopro camera where you can watch the action.

The 3 weeks we spent at Jewell Reef in 2011 were simply spectacular, with everything from huge GTs, to big black marlin, spanish mackerel, and days catching over 100 coral trout, red bass and emperors in the shallows. Jewell Reef really lived up to expectations this year. There's also an excellent trip report from our 3 weeks at Jewell Reef that you can read HERE, or you can check out the image gallery from Jewell Reef HERE

Nomad Returns to Marion Reef in 2012
prize pack

It's been over 2 years since we last visited Marion Reef, and we're doing a special joint trip in 2012 where we'll visit both Elusive and Marion Reefs on the same trip. This trip will offer excellent fishing for GTs, Mackerel and tuna at Elusive Reef, and then we expect some incredible wahoo, yellowfin and dogtooth action at Marion Reef, as well as jigging for giant coral trout. This trip is going to offer a huge variety of species that you simply won't get on any other trip..

We have 1 week currently available for this special trip, being the 17th-24th August 2012. It is sure to be extremely popular as you get a bonus day on the trip to allow for travel between the reefs, which essentially means an extra half a day fishing.

The full details of the new trip will be on our new website, which will be launched in a few weeks, but in the meantime, please call us or email us for more information, pricing and details.

We’re launching a new segment in the newsletter this month called the “Nomad Top Tips”. Each monthly newsletter will now feature a piece written by one of the Nomad guides about their top tips that will help your learn more, and catch more fish. The top 5 tips will be listed on the newsletter and there will be a detailed explanation for each tip listed on our website. We’ll regularly upload a new “top tip details” piece on the website and we’ll be putting notifications on our facebook page when the detailed reports are uploaded, so be sure to visit us on facebook to keep up with the latest reports.

This month we’re launching with a piece from one of the most experienced GT fishing guides you’ll find anywhere, on how to catch GTs. Here’s Glanville Heydenrych with his top 5 tips for catching GTs:-
Glanville's Top 5 Tips for catching GTs
prize pack

  1. First thing is where to fish??? Current, structure and bait - if you have those 3 you are onto a winner. Read a full page on Glanville's 1st tip HERE discover an in depth article on the very best locations for catching GTs.

  2. Know your tides, what time they change and how much water is in each change. Have a look at the area before you fish and try and establish which direction the current will hit the reef on the run in and run out tides and make a game plan. The fish will mostly congregate where the current first comes in contact with the reef.

  3. Tackle and lures...make sure it is all 100% ready for the game... if you doubt something change it!!! Try and find out what bait is around and cast something similar, if in doubt cast a popper and work it with big bloops and a short pause in between.

  4. The hook up – never strike, keep working the lure the same until the fish just about pulls you off the boat. When the reel is screaming that's your chance to go for the gimbal.

  5. Make sure you have enough drag set but not too much to overpower you or your gear.
