reck Reef
Another incredibly successful trip and another very happy group of guests experienced some absolutley unbelievable action last month. The variety of species was simply stunning, and we caught 282 GT's in a week with a Japanese group. This new reef, which we recently visited for the first time, provided us with some of the most amazing action imaginable on GT's, spanish mackerel, dogtooth tuna, big black marlin, coral trout, red bass, maori wrasse, big cod and a host of other species. There were GT's swimming around the back of the boat every night, and as you can see the above the action off the back deck was incredible. The reef is accessed by flying into Lizard Island, and taking a short boat trip north. Trip costs for 2008 will be $7500pp ex Lizard Island, and with the massive variety of species, and grander black marlin on the doorstep, this place is sure to fill very fast. As it is we only have limited space available for Jewell Reef 2008, so please be sure to call us if you are interested. Click Here to read the trip report and watch the video.
Check out the latest edition of Fishing World Magazine(December edition) for the DVD on the front cover featuring a 30 minute special on Nomad Sportfishing at Wreck Reef 2007. The wahoo and yellowfin action is truly unbelievable and there's a couple of 45-50kg wahoo landed in the production. The marlin fishing around Jewell Reef and on the Ribbon Reefs was a little slower than previous seasons, but we did end up releasing 5 black marlin estimated at over 1000lbs in the 3 weeks fishing between the 2 gameboats, and numerous other marlin in the 600-800lb size range. There were a lot of smaller 200lb marlin around this year, and with the little ones included, we averaged a fish a day while we were on the reef chasing marlin. The undoubted highlight was releasing a black marlin that would have been around the 1000lb mark on 50lb stand up gear and caught on a deep diving River2Sea downsider 200 minnow no. We run the minnow down the middle between the 2 big baits to catch yellowfin as livies, and we could not believe our bad luck when we saw the grander with the minnow in it's mouth. We also could not believe our good luck when we landed it after a 50 minute fight. We filmed the whole thing, so you can

During the latest trip to Jewell Reef, one of our Japanese guests landed a GT estimated at close to 50kgs using one of our Nomad Ulua stickbaits. The fact that we convinced a Japanese guy to use one of our lures was satisfying enough, but to have him land his Personal Best GT on one was simply awesome. The Ulua range is now in stock and available in 90, 120 and 150 sizes.
