If you like casting lures around coral lagoons for big fish, then these are the trips for you. If you want the ultimate in variety of fishing options and styles, the biggest fish imaginable, and a remote and pristine coral sea reef rarely visited by people, then a Lagoon Explorer trip is a must do.
The fishing is absolutley amazing because few people have ever fished at the locations we visit. The Capricorn Islands and Bugatti Reef are so isolated, remote and pristine and receive so little pressure that there are some truly huge fish there. The Capricorn Islands are an ideal location for targetting truly massive GT's, and we've seen them here well over 60kgs. Bugatti Reef and the Capricorn Islands provide opportunities for many different species, and the GTs even fight differently at both locations. If you want awesome action on a huge variety of sportfish and heaps of GTs then Bugatti Reef or the Capricorn Islands are both going to please you. Also remember that both the Capricorn Islands and Bugatti Reef have some of the best light tackle sportfishing available anywhere in Australia. The species you are likely to encounter at both reefs include GT's, spanish mackerel, golden trevally, queenfish, coral trout, red bass, many varieties of emperors, fingermark, with the Capricorn Islands having some inland creeks full of barra and mangrove jacks, while Bugatti Reef has some fishing for dogtooth tuna along it's outer edges, subject to weather. Some of the fishing options are as follows:- .
- GT fishing, general lurecasting and flyfishing in the shallows is spectacular aboard our centre console sportfishing vessels. The lagoon fishing for big GTs, spanish mackerel, coral trout, red bass and other reef critters is a real feature of these trips.
- General sportfishing in the very shallow areas of the reef from the 18ft centre consoles will produce spectacular results using soft plastics, flyfishing, small minnows and poppers.
- Trolling from the centre console sportfishers will produce wahoo, dogtooth tuna, spanish mackerel, coral trout and a whole host of other species.
- Flyfishing enthusiasts will love the range of options available. Bugatti Reef is probably one of the best locations avaiulable anywhere to target BIG GTs on the flyrod. We've landed GTs up to 30kgs on fly at this reef.
- the Capricorn Islands have some amazing light takle fishing for fingermark, golden trevally, queenfish, as well as barra and mangrove jacks up the creeks if we need to hide from the wind.
