Pre Trip Accommodation
Ultimate Adventure trips depart from Hamilton Island, and package prices are ex Hamilton Island airport. Depending on tides, and the dates of your trip, there may be an overnight stay required at Hamilton island before and after your flight out to the the Coral Sea. Please check these details with our office when you make a booking. There are a variety of accommodation styles available at Hamilton island, but it is an expensive place to stay. We have a deal with the island, and are able to provide discounted rates to Nomad clients so please just contact us for any assistance with booking accommodation at Hamilton Island.
Domestic flights from Brisbane and Sydney operate several times a day to Hamilton Island, and these can be booked through the Jetstar or Virgin Blue websites.
Domestic Flights in Australia
Many domestic air carriers in Australia have baggage limits, and limits on the length of rods tubes allowed to be carried. Jetstar airways allows rod tubes up to a maximum length of 2m. We believe that currently Virgin airways allows longer rod tubes, but please ask your travel agent to ensure they check any special requirements.
Flights to the Coral Sea
Flights to the Coral Sea depart from the Island air aviation terminal at Hamilton Island airport. If you are staying at Hamilton Island prior to the trip, there will be a courtesy shuttle coming to your accommodation to collect you prior to the flight. Shuttle transfers and times of flights need to be co-ordinated through our office. If you do not organise your accommodation through our office, please make sure you let us know where you are staying so we can arrange a pickup for you.
Baggage Allowance
There is a 20kg baggage allowance on the floatplane out to the Coral Sea. If you require bringing more baggage than this, you will need to contact our office. If you bring more baggage than 20kg, we cannot guarantee that it will all be taken to the reef for your trip.
Accommodation onboard Odyssey
While onboard our 80ft mothership Odyssey in the Coral Sea you wil be staying in either a quad share or double share cabin. We have 3 x quad share and 2 x double cabins available onboard Odyssey. The twin share cabins can be reserved for any of our trips, please contact the office for pricing. They can be reserved for one or two people subject to availability.
Washroom and toilet facilities onboard Odyssey are all shared facilities, but there are 3 facilities available, and they are very comfortable.
Food onboard Odyssey
Our chef and hostess provide a very high level of food and beverages for our trips. Our chef is highly skilled at provides a mixture of Asian and Australian influenced cuisine. We can cater for any style of food you require, and also for any dietary requirements, but we will need to be notified well before your trip if you do have any special dietary requirements. Please contact the office with any special requests, and we will be more than happy to assist.
Medical
We do have an excellent emergency medical plan in place for any emergency situations while out at sea. We have a Royal Flying Doctors First aid chest which contains equipment to deal with all first aid emergencies. We are required to be in Satellite phone contact with our Doctor to use this chest, but it provides the highest level of remote area medical assistance possible. Any emergency evacuations are handled through the RFDS or our floatplane pilots directly.
You will need to be in reasonable health to visit the Coral Sea. We have clients aged from 15-85 years old, but please be aware that the location you are visiting is a LONG way from serious medical assistance. We do not recommend coming on these trips if you have any serious medical conditions that could require immediate attention.
Travel Insurance
Travel insurance is recommended for ALL clients undertaking our trips. You should ensure that travel insurance can cover any changes to connecting flights, medical emergencies, and cancellations of any kind. It is highly unlikely that anything will happen in regards to your trip, but if it does, some form of insurance is very valuable.
