Lizard Island is located on the far northern coast of Queensland, and is used as a base to access some of the amazing fishing on the reefs in close proximity to Lizard Island. It is an extremely remote island, which has been made famous due to the numbers of 1000lb plus black marlin that spawn in the waters around the reefs to the east and north of the island between Sept-Nov each year. October is the prime month to be fishing around Lizard Island. According to records kept by the IGFA, over 70% of all confirmed 1000lb+ marlin captures in the world have come from the waters around Lizard Island. There is simply nowhere in the world where you stand a better chance of being connected to a 1000lb marlin than fishing the reefs such as the Ribbons, Jewell, Day and Hicks Reefs. Nomad Sportfishing have caught and released marlin weighing up to 1300lbs around the reefs near Lizard Island.
Added to the amazing marlin fishing
is some of the most spectacular sportfishing imaginable for GTs, spanish mackerel, sailfish, red bass, coral trout and dogtooth tuna, as well as yellowfin and wahoo. But it's the numbers of GTs and big spanish mackerel on offer that make the reefs around Lizard Island a special sportfishing destination.
The anchorage in behind the island is superb, and one of the best on the north Queensland coast. As well as all of this, there is some of the most amazing pristine white sandy beaches to explore, and some of the best scuba diving available anywhere in the world. The famed Cod Hole is a 20 minute boat trip from Lizard.
