Capt. Karl Ockinga
We used the above photo of Karl because it is a rare picture that proves he is not onboard the mothership. Karl works tirelessly to ensure that our mothership is in excellent condition, and is rarely found away from the vessel.
It is hard to know where to start when describing Karl, he's a keen saltwater flyfisherman and general sportfisherman, has commercially fished for most reef species on the QLD coast, has been involved with fishing charter boats all his life, and has also spent many years doing whale watching charters out of Hervey Bay.
Karl started with Nomad sportfishing as a fishing guide in early 2008, but soon decided that he was more interested in pursuing a job as our Skipper/Engineer onboard the mothership Odyssey. Karl proved to be an incredibly knowledgable and professional fishing guide, and with many years of experince as a commercial fisherman and charter boat operator, he has a huge depth of experience in the marine industry.
As well as skipperring our mothership, and safely maneuvring the vessel, in pursuit of our fishing guides, around the maze of reef we sometimes visit, Karl is the onboard engineer, and general Mr Fix it.
Karl still likes to get out on the water and do the occasional bit of guiding, just to prove he can still hold his own against our other guides, but Karl's rofessionalism and experience onboard the mothership will ensure that your adventure with nomad sportfishing will be both safe and relaxing.
