Jason TullochOdyssey Master and Fishing Guide

Jason Tulloch (Tully) has over 15 years experience as a professional fishing guide, working in the offshore fishery of Tweed Heads and the northern NSW coast. An engineer by trade, Tully is a qualified Master V and MED2 and is currently studying for his Master IV ticket. Tully joined Nomad Sportfishing in August 2017 and works alternately as skipper or fishing guide for our mothership Odyssey.

Kelly MillsFishing Guide

Kelly Mills (Millsy) has been working as a professional fishing guide 10 years, with his range of work including deckhand work with some of Australia’s top gameboat skippers as well as guiding for lodges and motherships throughout Australia. Kelly started his fishing career as a deckhand with Renegade Sportfishing and various private boats out of Hamilton Island before guiding with Greg Bethune’s mothership operation ‘Carpentaria Seafaris’ out of Cape York, and with Tiwi Island Adventures (Melville and Bathurst Island) in the Northern Territory for 2 seasons. Kelly worked with Luke Fallon from Kekoa Sportsfishing guiding in the Coral Sea, Torres Straits and the Gulf of Carpentaria, and worked the deck during the heavy tackle marlin season. A Sunshine Coast local, Kelly has also worked with numerous fishing operations in Noosa. Kelly is well travelled, having fished many places including Mexico, Guatemala, Caribbean, New Zealand, Hawaii and Indonesia. Kelly holds a Master V ticket.

Ash SimsFishing Guide

Ash has been guiding and angling professionally for many years, from Toowoomba, to Mackay and now Far North Queensland. Ash specialises in all aspect of lure based fishing. He is a regular competitor on the ABT tournament circuit and manufactures and distributes his own range of soft plastics – Reflections Swimbaits Australia. Ash joined the Nomad Sportfishing team in August 2017 and holds his Open Coxswains ticket.

Jason HedgesFishing Guide

An avid lure fisherman personally, Jason Hedges (Hedges) joined Nomad as a casual guide in August 2016 and took on one of our fulltime roles in 2017. Jason now runs his own charter business on the north coast of NSW but will continue to join the crew in 2018 as a casual fill-in guide. Jason’s background is in the Boating industry and Commercial Fishing off the Northern NSW coast. Jason holds a Master V ticket and is currently studying for his MED2 ticket.

Richard CarrOdyssey Chef

Born in New Zealand, Richie has over 13 years chef experience in New Zealand and Australia, working in a diverse range of kitchens from Tauranga in the Bay of Plenty to the beautiful Hamilton Island and offshore rigs in Western Australia. Richie joined our crew in April 2017.

Damian ColetteOwner of Saltaire / Relief Master and Fishing Guide

Damian Colette has been in the fishing industry for over 15 years, having started as a deckhand, guide then skipper. He has been working with Nomad Sportfishing since 2010, fishing in some of the best reefs the Coral Sea has to offer. Damian’s background is in engineering and he holds a Master V and MED 1.

Jake ColetteSaltaire Crew

Jake Colette has been fishing the Great Barrier Reef and surrounding estuaries/rivers most of his life,catching his first marlin aged 9 and most other pelagic, river and reef species since. He has worked as a deckhand whilst at school and full-time since leaving and now is studying for his Master V. Jake is experienced in all forms of fishing from heavy tackle marlin to reef fishing.

Helen BarryCharter Sales and Guest Support

Helen joins the team as the main contact for charter sales and guest support by phone, email or on social media. Helen can help out with all the details you need for getting to and from the mothership for your trip. Helen’s diverse background in tourism includes working in the aviation industry in Kununurra, WA, as well as for one of Australia’s major expedition cruise companies based in Cairns, North Queensland. Helen joined our office team in May 2017 after her family moved from Cairns to Brisbane. If you have any questions about things to do in and around Cairns before or after your trip, Helen has some great suggestions!

Melissa ReederOperations and Crew Support

Melissa has been part of the Nomad Team since January 2008. Mel is responsible for ensuring smooth communication between the office and the Odyssey crew, and for providing planning, organisation and support for all aspects of the day to day operations of Odyssey and tenders. Mel’s highly organised and efficient manner make all of our trips run smoothly, and when you speak with her you’ll soon find out why she is an integral member of the Nomad Team. Prior to joining Nomad Sportfishing Mel worked in various admin roles in the Construction Industry. Mel is also a qualified Early Childhood Teacher!

My favourite spot would have to be Bugatti Reef hands down, from the seaplane flight out to the reef, flying over the very famous heart reef, to the unbelievable reef structure and isolated sand cays. This place is amazing!

Claire GobeAccounts and General Management

Claire joined the Nomad team part time in 2005 as Hostess onboard Odyssey, then full time in February 2006 as office manager. Claire handles Accounts and General Management for Nomad Sportfishing. As well as running the office, Claire has spent a lot of time onboard the Odyssey gaining valuable experience in the way that the vessel operates while at sea. Claire is extremely knowledgeable about all of our charter packages and fishing options, and has experienced many of these trips first hand. Before joining Nomad Sportfishing Claire worked as a Curatorial Assistant at the Queensland Art Gallery.

Although Claire has followed Damon on many amazing fishing trips around the world, at the moment her favourite fishing spots are the Pine River or Noosa River, where Claire and Damon can often be found on a Sunday morning testing Damon’s next lure design and teaching their two little boys how to cast lures and read the water.

Damon OlsenManaging Director

Damon is Managing Director of Nomad Sportfishing Adventures and Nomad Tackle, lure designer for Nomad Design Tackle, and a qualified Master 5 and MED 2 Captain. He has over 20 years experience running fishing charters on the east coast of Queensland, and it is his knowledge of the anchorages and fishing grounds of the Great Barrier Reef, Coral Sea and Torres Strait that underpins every Nomad Sportfishing charter. Before starting Nomad Sportfishing charters at Fraser Island in 2000, he gained a degree in Civil Engineering from QUT in Brisbane and worked as a Civil Engineer, before the lure of the ocean was just too much. Damon project managed the construction of our 80ft mothership Odyssey in 2005 and launched our Coral Sea trips in September of that year. Over the last 17 years he has taken charter guests to explore nearly every reef in offshore Queensland waters (green zones excluded!).

Personal Bests:

Damon has guided and skippered clients on many incredible captures including 2 of the largest giant trevally ever caught anywhere in the world, black marlin up to 1300lbs at Lizard Island and 100kg dogtooth tuna in the Coral Sea. If it swims on the East Coast of QLD, he’s probably caught it. Anything from GT fishing to flyfishing for bonefish or topwater fishing for Australian Bass, if you can catch it on any kind of visual lure, you’ll find Damon doing it. Damon has both captured and skippered the boat for many national gamefishing records. A 49kg sailfish on 4kg line and a 70kg yellowfin tuna on 8kg are some of the notable captures.
