Seasonal Info February – August

This time of year sees us fishing the Lagoon Explorer, Northern Explorer and Princess Charlotte Bay areas, departing from Lizard Island, Port Douglas or Princess Charlotte Bay in far North Queensland.

FEB

February – March

This is the end of summer in Australia, with the weather remaining reasonably warm and daytime temperatures around 30 degrees Celsius. Night time temps can get down to 24 degrees Celsius. The average 3pm wind speed, averaged across the whole month, from the Bureau of Meteorology at this time of year is 10kn in this general area.

AVG 3PM WIND SPEED: 10kn

APR

April – May

This is autumn in Australia, with the weather remaining reasonably warm and humid and daytime temperatures still around 28-30 degrees Celsius. Night time temperatures can get down to 21-23 degrees Celsius. The average 3pm wind speed, averaged across the whole month, from the Bureau of Meteorology at this time of year is 11-13kn for this general area.

JUN

June – August

This is winter in Australia, and although humidity has decreased and it can be a little cooler at night, it is still the tropics, with daytime temperatures around 26-28 Celsius, and night time temperatures averaging 19 degrees Celsius. The average 3pm wind speed, averaged across the whole month, from the Bureau of Meteorology at this time of year is 11-14kn for the general area we visit.

As spring turns into summer in Australia, we head north to do our Far Northern Explorer, Tydeman Reef, Bligh Reef, Northern Pandora Reefs and Torres Strait trips.

SEP

September – October

This time of year can start to get quite warm, with a daily temperature range from 27-30 degrees Celsius. There is usually not a lot of rain at this time of year. The average 3pm wind speed, averaged across the whole month, from the Bureau of Meteorology at this time of year is 15kn for the areas we tend to visit.

AVG 3PM WIND SPEED: 15kn

NOV

November – December

These two months can get hot depending on where we visit, but the average wind speed is a little lower. Expect daily temperatures from 30-34 degrees Celsius and nighttime temperatures of around 24 degrees Celcius. The average 3pm wind speed, averaged across the whole month, from the Bureau of Meteorology at this time of year is 8-14kn and depends a lot on the exact location we’re at during this period. This is the end of the dry season when humidity starts to build with the onset of the wet season from late December. In November the reef comes alive with the annual coral spawning.
